New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has announced an agreement has been reached between his office and 23 gun show operators across the state on a measure he says will help close a loophole in gun control laws that has allowed people to purchase firearms from shows without a full background check.Schneiderman says under the Model Gun Show Procedures agreement, all guns brought into a show by private sellers must be tagged so it can be determined if a buyer has passed the necessary background checks on their way out.

The 23 show operators signing onto the agreement oversee over 80% of the gun shows in New York State. Schneiderman says he hopes to have universal adoption of the procedures in the state by the end of the year.

The agreement with the initial show operators followed a state-wide undercover investigation.
