The relatively-mild and snow-free weather has helped workers make significant progress on the construction of the new Temple Israel building in Vestal. The building could be ready for use before summer.

The new structure is rising to replace a building which sustained heavy damage when part of the roof collapsed thirteen months ago.

Contractors have been working on the new building at the Deerfield Place site of the previous structure since last summer.

Temple Israel president Richard Schneierson said the outside of the new structure is "basically wrapped" which makes it possible for crews to work on the inside during the winter. He said the parking lot lights also have been installed on the site.

Schneierson said May 15 is the tentative date that's been set for the new building to be placed into operation.

Temple Israel services are being held at the nearby Jewish Community Center until the new building is opened.
