The onset of winter weather typically doesn’t lend itself to gardening, but a lot of planting has been going on lately in the City of Binghamton.

Parks Department crews are planting dozens of trees in the City as part of a program to maintain or improve the foliage canopy in neighborhoods.

Residents who wanted more trees planted in their area signed up in September and plants donated by NASCAR with the Arbor Day Foundation’s national green initiative as well as trees provided by New York State Electric and Gas have been going in the ground all around Binghamton.

90 trees were planted over the past several weeks with another 100 scheduled to be installed.

90 trees donated by NASCAR have been going into City of Binghamton parks with other trees placed in neighborhoods.

Lower-growing species are earmarked for placement under power lines in neighborhoods.
