A Cortland County man is accused of speeding through two counties, dumping his motorcycle and trying to outrun authorities on foot.

Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say at 5:43 a.m. July 11 they attempted to stop a speeding motorcycle on Route 392 in the Town of Lampeer.

Authorities say the driver, 44 year old Santo Oliver of Virgil continued speeding west through three townships and into Tompkins County, returned to Cortland County and dumped the bike at the intersection of Gee Hill Road and Route 392.

Deputies say they chased Santo on foot into a nearby creek bottom and wooded area.  He was taken into custody about an hour later.

Oliver is charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer, criminal possession of a controlled substance, 2 counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, reckless driving, failure to keep right, speeding, failing to stop for a stop sign and uninspected vehicle.

He was sent to the Cortland County Jail on $1,000 bail.
