An arrest has been made in connection with a reported armed robbery in Binghamton's First Ward.

Authorities say 39-year-old Steven VanWinkle is the suspect in a heist at the Hess convenience store on Glenwood Avenue.

Police say the robbery is said to have occurred shortly before five o'clock Saturday morning.

A man armed with a knife made off with cash and cigarettes.

Detectives say VanWinkle was taken into custody about five hours later when police were called to investigate a possible larceny at a store on the Clinton Street.

Police say VanWinkle was charged with first-degree robbery.
