A Waverly man has been accused of driving while intoxicated after a vehicle he was driving hit a bridge railing in the town of Barton.

Authorities say 35-year-old David Shaw IV of Camptown Road sustained broken ribs in the crash on Route 34.

Investigators say the vehicle continued into the opposite traffic lane after it smashed into the railing. It came to rest in a gravel lot.

In addition to DWI, Shaw was charged with not wearing a seat belt and two counts of failure to keep right.
