Authorities say 24-year-old Trevor Hawkins of Mulberry Street was arrested shortly after police received a report of gunfire in the First Ward.

The incident happened in the area of 22 Mygatt Street around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say police officers who responded found no one injured. But a canine unit located a loaded .40 caliber Sig Sauer P226 handgun. The weapon was hidden under the back porch steps of the Mygatt Street residence.

Hawkins was taken into custody at the scene. He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, felonies.

Hawkins also faces counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, discharging a firearm in the city and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Police did not indicate why Hawkins may have fired the gun.
