A Delaware County man has been accused of racing away from state troopers who were assisting with traffic control at a scouting event.

Authorities say 35-year-old Joshua Carey of Stamford has been charged with reckless endangerment, along with vehicle and traffic violations after Saturday afternoon's incident.

Investigators say troopers tried to stop a sport utility vehicle in the town of Harpersfield because it was unregistered and had switched plates. The driver sped away from troopers at a high rate of speed.

Officials say Carey drove off the roadway into a field, causing a tire to blow and damaging the vehicle's radiator. He then is said to have run into the woods after the vehicle came to a stop.

Police found Carey the following day at a friend's house. He was arraigned in Harpersfield town court and sent to Delaware County Jail on $1,500 bail.
