A resident of Thornwood and Meridale is accused of backing into a vehicle parked at the Dutch Deli in the Hamlet of Meridale and fleeing the scene.

Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say they stopped 49 year old Andrew Bright a short distance from the scene and determined he had been driving with a blood alcohol level at more than twice the legal limit.

Authorities say a 19 year old Malta, New York resident was in the parked vehicle when it was hit at the deli at the intersection of State Highway 28 and County Highway 10 at 1:20 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries.

Deputies say Bright is charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content over .18%, backing unsafely and leaving the scene of an accident.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies had help from the New York State Police from Oneonta and Stamford in tracking Bright’s vehicle down following the collision.
