Appearing on the October 10 edition of the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Communicable Disease Program Nurse with the Broome County Health Department, Marianne Yourdon talks about how residents can protect themselves from exposure to Lyme Disease.

Yourdon says often, people think the cooler weather means disease-carrying ticks are dying off but she says the fall is a busy season for the bugs to feed before they breed.

Mary provides a lot of details about how the ticks spread the disease, what ticks are carriers and what Lyme Disease is.

Yourdon says people can call her with questions at (607) 778-2804.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
