Lourdes Hospital president David Patak intends to leave the post he's held for more than five years.

Patak, who also serves as Lourdes CEO, today announced he plans to move to the Atlanta area.

In a statement released by Lourdes, Patak said he and his wife have decided to relocate to be near family.

In the statement, Patak said he "will greatly miss this community." But, he said, he and his wife plan to return frequently to visit relatives in the Binghamton area.

Patak became Lourdes president and CEO in March 2009.

According to the hospital, Patak is expected to stay on in his current role through November 1.

In the months ahead, the Lourdes board of directors will work with Ascension Health to develop a transition plan.
