New York State Senator Thomas Libous is looking at more time in a courtroom following a pre-trial hearing September 4 in White Plains under allegations that he used his influence as a leader in the state senate to get his son a job with a downstate law firm, resulting in one federal count charging he lied to investigators.

Libous says he thought the proceedings went well.

The Binghamton Republican’s attorney has asked that the next appearance be in Albany where the alleged offense supposedly took place.

A court conference is expected January 9th.

Libous’ attorney has claimed that while many documents have been shared with the defense by prosecutors, other information that could aid in proving innocence has been withheld.

The Senator’s son has also been indicted on federal charges.  Matthew Libous is facing six counts. One charges obstructing administration of the Internal Revenue Service while the other five allege submitting false tax returns, failing to report over 282-thousand dollars of income between 2007 and 2012.

The younger Libous is due to begin a jury trial January 20.
