Large-Scale Search Launched for Missing Owego Man
A search and rescue team is assisting law enforcement agencies in the effort to find a Tioga County resident who was reported missing.
Authorities say they are trying to locate 21-year-old Billy James Zavatto-Bado who lives on Ford Road in the town of Owego.
According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, Zavatto-Bado was last seen at his home around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was wearing a light blue winter coat, black pants, beige-colored boots, camouflaged gloves and a black knit cap.
Officials say Zavatto-Bado is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
The man's mother expressed concern for his well-being in a Facebook post. She wrote that "it is life threatening for him to be without his seizure medicine."
A command post was set up at the Campville Fire Station on Gaskill Road.
Investigators say people with information about the man's whereabouts may contact the sheriff's office at 607.687.1010.
The Tioga County Search and Rescue Team is working with sheriff's deputies and state troopers in the effort. A New York State Police helicopter also was being used to search the area.
