Johnson City Police officials say, in reality, only two pipes are unaccounted for from the police evidence room.

Johnson City was one of several police agencies cited for mishandling evidence in an audit by the New York State Comptroller’s office.

The comptroller auditors looked at records from January 1, 2012 through September 4, 2013 and identified dozens of items that were inaccurately recorded and claimed 26 items that were supposed to be in the evidence room weren’t there.

Village Police Chief Brent Dodge says nothing was lost but there were mistakes made in transitioning from paper records to a database.

Mayor Gregg Deemie says the Village will look at possibly hiring a part-time employee to be the only one to handle inventory, so fewer people would be tracking information.  He says that will help eliminate miscommunication.
