Johnson City Police are warning residents about a scam.

Police say recently there have been numerous reports of one or more people approaching residents in commercial parking lots in the Village and other municipalities, asking for money.

Police say the suspects may appear clean-cut and their excuses for needed help seem legitimate, but they continue to solicit money and even have been known to approach the same people more than once.

Johnson City Police say the activity is more than likely a scam for money based on false pretenses and could violate local and state laws.

Anyone who is approached and feel the person does need help, or who aren’t sure should refer the person to call First Call for Help by dialing 211 for assistance instead of giving money and if they feel the person is engaging in illegal activity, they should call police.
