A Broome County law enforcement agency will receive nearly $21,000 in state funding to improve the supervision of people on probation and parole.

According to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, the Johnson City Police Department has been awarded the grant.

The money is to be used for enhanced investigation and supervision of probationers and parolees. The goal of the program is to reduce recidivism.

Johnson City is one of 31 agencies receiving funding from the crime-fighting grant program.

The grants were offered to police agencies in 40 New York counties.
