The  West Corners Fire Company held its annual Ice Cream Social tonight at its 500 Day Hollow Road location.  Hundreds of people attended the event.  Many were from the West Corners area but others travelled from as far away as Owego and Binghamton to enjoy ice cream and cup cakes.

People of all ages turned out.  Unbelievably, a bowl of ice cream cost just one dollar.  Volunteer firefighters served up the treats,  A bowl was not just a couple of small scoops but at least three mega-sized scoops.  After watching the fire personnel fill up customer's ice cream bowls you could see a lot of smiles and laughter from the recipients.  Many showed disbelief at the size of their serving.

The Ice Cream Social is the biggest  fund-raising event the West Corners Fire Company holds each year.  It dates back to the 1950's.  What started out as $.25 per person back in the 1980's has continued to be quite a bargain for the community with ice cream just $1.00 !
