Emergency services officials say people are still using dangerous methods to try to thaw frozen pipes.

A mobile home in Harpursville is gone after fire ripped through the structure as residents were trying to use a torpedo heater that is normally used for extra heat in a large garage, to thaw pipes under the trailer.

There were no injuries in the three alarm fire at around 8 p.m. February 24 on Route 79.

Firefighters from Harpursville, Ouaquaga and Windsor were all called to the scene.

Responding crews found the mobile home already fully involved in flames and authorities say there was no one home.

Officials say it is especially important, no matter what method is being used, to never leave devices unattended.
