Former Deposit School Collapses

Officials are investigating the collapse of a portion of the Brick School in Deposit.

An Executive Emergency Order has been issued by Village Mayor John O’Connor prohibiting anyone from getting near the former elementary school on Second Street at Center Street.

The roof of the structure fell in and parts of the third and second floors also fell and the building has been declared unstable.

Traffic is being detoured around the area including on Center Street from Second Street to Dean Street until further notice.

Sidewalks are also closed.

Officials have not said what caused the collapse.
