Several Broome County Jail inmates have been charged after a shakedown detail at the town of Dickinson facility

The jail's criminal investigations unit says five inmates were arrested.

Authorities say 30-year-old Charles Alexander of Johnson City faces three felony counts. He was charged with weapon possession, promoting prison contraband and criminal mischief.

Alexander was said to be found in possession of a metal flange which had been broken off a toilet. The flange was reportedly wrapped in a sock tucked in Alexander's pants.

Two other inmates were charged with promoting prison contraband and two others were charged with marijuana possession.
