Fire Prevention Week is winding down with a tribute to Fallen Firefighters in Binghamton, including a fireman who lost his life the year in the line of duty.

A mass was held Friday, October 11, at St. Paul’s Church on Chenango Street.

The 9 a.m. service was followed by a memorial ceremony for Fallen Firefighter John Janos at Binghamton City Hall.

Janos died in the line of duty on April 6.

The 57 year old veteran firefighter, firefighters union president and paramedic had responded to an active fire alarm at a multiple story building shortly after midnight that morning and was found unresponsive later in the day at the State Street fire station.

His death was determined to be cardiac related.
