An Endwell couple is facing charges after authorities got a 911 call at around 2:30 p.m. October 21 about a man and a woman in a vehicle with the man holding a handgun on State Route 17 in Vestal.

New York State Police stopped a vehicle matching the description in the Prospect Mountain construction zone.

34 year old Zenaida Montanez and 60 year old Gulberto Montanez are both facing drug and weapon possession charges.

Troopers say when they stopped the vehicle on Route 17 east, the man was seen holding the loaded handgun while he was sitting in the front seat.

Zenaida is charged with misdemeanor driving while impaired by drugs, possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Gulberto is charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Troopers say they found Gulberto illegally possessed the loaded FN Five-Seven semi-automatic handgun with a 20 round magazine, 16 rounds of 5.7X28 armor piercing ammunition and crack cocaine.

Authorities say Zenaida was found to have a small amount of heroin and cocaine and she also told Troopers that the unregistered handgun belonged to her.

The woman was ordered to appear in Town of Dickinson Court next month while the man was sent to the Broome County Jail without bail.
