Police in the village of Endicott are using a solar-powered sign to display vehicle speeds to drivers.

The police department has announced it acquired the sign with the assistance of the Endicott Municipal Light Department.

The sign was obtained through the state's Independent Energy Efficiency Program.

The LED pole-mounted speed display has a battery backup if the primary solar power isn't adequate.

Police department officials say speed sign is being used to educate motorists as they travel through the village.
