One person was killed after a sport utility vehicle crashed into a barn near Port Crane.

Authorities say Broome County sheriff's deputies were sent to the scene on Route 369 in the town of Fenton around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators say the Chevrolet Equinox had been southbound when it veered off the roadway and struck the stone barn just off the west shoulder.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. No one else was in the SUV.

The name of the operator was being withheld until notifications could be completed.

The sheriff's office was assisted by the Port Crane Fire Department, Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad, Port Dickinson police and the New York State Department of Transportation.

Officials say the investigation into the crash is continuing.
