One of the leaders of the Southern Tier’s Economic Development planning panel is giving details of some of the projects getting underway thanks to the region winning $500 million in New York State Development money.

Binghamton University President, Doctor Harvey Stenger told a gathering January 20 some of the biggest projects are the Health and Innovation Park in Johnson City, a Hybrid Power Train Test Center and the pilot Endicott Micro-grid Energy Generation Facility for possible future energy storage.

Many of the projects involve participation by the university.

The applications for $6 million for the Hybrid Power Train Test Center and $6 million for the Micro-grid project still need to be submitted.

The Southern Tier Economic Development Council spent about a year writing proposals for the entire region that would involve public, private and higher education institutions’ cooperation in order to land a portion of money in what had been dubbed Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Upstate Hunger Games

Doctor Stenger says, after so much work going into the planning process, its good to be able to get started on some of the initiatives.
