Daughters of Charity to Leave Lourdes

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]The nuns are leaving our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

The Daughters of Charity, who have been a staple at the west side hospital since the 1920s, are instrumental in launching a number of programs, including hospice. The Order has announced they will leave next spring due to a drop in the number of sisters.

Hospital officials say while the sisters will be moving on, Lourdes will continue to carry on their mission.

The Daughters of Charity have said they want to go to a community with other sisters but have not indicated where that might be.
