A vacant Deputy Broome County Executive position will not be filled.  Broome County Executive Debbie Preston made that announcement this morning.  The position became vacant with the resignation of Bijoy Datta in May.  Not filling the position  should save Broome County at least $80,000 in salary and benefits according to Preston.

Under the new plan Commissioner of Social Service Art Johnson will oversee the Office for Aging as well as the Willow Point Nursing Home.  Commissioner of Public Works Dan Schofield will oversee the departments of Aviation and B.C Transit.

The County Executive said "I don't think it's right to fill that position when I'm asking all of our departments to cut back and look for ways to save money for the County taxpayers."

Preston says as the County continues to go through the budget process the new structure will be evaluated and there could be additional changes for 2015.
