Firefighters in the region are being kept busy responding to alarms and a couple of house fires.

A blaze at a 1 ½ story building behind a home on Mindon Avenue on the West Side of Binghamton was reported at around 3:30 a.m. January 5 and firefighters found flames coming from the side of the building.  The residents got out safely and the fire was out in about a half hour.

Investigators will also be looking into the cause of a fire in Chenango County that heavily damaged a single-family home.

The two-alarm blaze was reported on Winner road in the Town of Smithville in the Oxford Fire District at around 1:30 a.m.  The single occupant got out safely.

Firefighters from Oxford, Greene, Brisben, Smithville and Guilford worked at the scene of that fire.

Meanwhile, other calls came out to investigate alarms, including one at a Johnson City church that turned out to be a malfunction.
