New York State Police are looking for a man who lead them on a chase through Oneida and Chenango Counties, ending in Broome County.

Officials October 9 started following a red Humvee that was reported stolen in the City of Utica.

The driver took off at a high rate of speed in Chenango County and troopers called off the chase over safety concerns.

Several miles later, authorities spotted the suspect again and he was located in the area of State Route 12 and Brotzman Road.  That’s where police deployed tire deflation devices across the road, puncturing two front tires, bringing the Hummer to a stop.

The driver fled on foot, followed by Troopers but he was lost in the dark as he fled into a viaduct in a wooded area.

The man is described as black, with his hair in dreadlocks, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.  He is believed to be about 20 years old, standing about 5’ 7” and weighing about 150 pounds.

While authorities have not said if they know the suspect’s identity, they did say they believed he was from the Utica area.

The investigation may be aided by the discovery of the man’s cell phone still in the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the New York State Police at (607) 775-1241 or if they see the man to call 911.
