Ceremony Marks Renaming Of Broome County Arena
A ceremony to acknowledge the renaming of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena was held at the four-decade-old facility in downtown Binghamton today.
The venue now is known as the “Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.”
The change is the result of a naming-rights agreement announced last March.
According to county officials, the Maines family is paying $75,000 annually under the five-year deal. The agreement could be extended for an additional fifteen years.
Exterior signs reflecting the new name were installed last week. A bronze plaque in honor of Floyd L. Maines will hang inside the Arena.
This is the first time since the venue opened in 1973 that the county has sold naming rights to the building.
