Thousands of area residents celebrated America's Independence Day in near perfect summer weather. Villages and communities hosted various ceremonies and parades throughout the area and around the nation.

Two of the biggest celebrations were held in Endwell and Montrose.  The 38th annual Highland Park Extravaganza went on all day in Endwell.  Activities  began with the Town of Union Colors of Independence 5K Run and Walk at 9 AM.  From 1-6 PM the American Heart Association teamed up with the Endwell Rotary Club and Union Volunteer Emergency Squad to teach participants Hands on CPR.  Festivities concluded with a huge fireworks show at 9:30 PM.
