A major ‘can-struction’ project is underway at the Oakdale Mall.

Ten teams are building structures all out of canned goods to draw attention to the hunger problem in the region.

The structures will be judged later this week and the canned goods will be donated to the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

In addition to celebrity judges, the public also has a chance to vote for a ‘People’s Choice’ winner.

The Broome Leadership Institute Alumni Association Board is hosting the competition.

The can artists range from Lockheed Martin engineers to BOCES students.

The can sculptures are on display at the mall through March 30.
