Campaign Volunteer is Accused of Stealing From Purses in the Town of Union

A Whitney Point man is accused of stealing money from women’s purses while volunteering at a campaign event in the Town of Union for Family Court Judge Candidate Richard Miller.

Broome County Sheriff’s officials say witnesses reported 21 year old Christopher Ruggiero appeared high and was seen in the area where the three purses were stored before leaving the event early.

Investigators say it’s believed about $500 was taken out of the bags.

Ruggiero was arrested at his home yesterday after admitting to Deputies that he took the money and charged with petit larceny.  The cash was not recovered.

Ruggiero was issued a ticket to appear in Town of Union Court at a later date.
