Binghamton police are seeking three suspects after cash was taken during the robbery of a taxi driver.

Authorities say the heist was reported around 3:10 a.m. Wednesday. They say it happened near Serrell Avenue and Cleveland Avenue.

The driver told investigators he picked up three men who had been walking near the downtown bus station on Chenango Street.

When the cab stopped in the West Side neighborhood, one passenger grabbed the driver from behind and placed him in a chokehold.

The men stole cash and other property from the driver. Although there was a struggle, police say the driver was not seriously hurt.

The passengers ran from the area. Police officers and a canine unit searched the neighborhood.

The suspects are described as black men in their early 20s. No arrests have been made.
