Police say a driver's blood alcohol level was measured at nearly three times the legal limit after a vehicle struck a pole in a Chenango Bridge supermarket parking lot.

Authorities say 31-year-old Brian Carter of the town of Chenango was charged with DWI and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Carter also was cited for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle hit a light pole outside the Price Chopper at 33 Chenango Bridge Road around 10:30 Thursday night.

Officials say a sheriff's deputy found Carter and the vehicle on a nearby road.

According to the sheriff's office, the driver's blood alcohol content was measured at 0.23 percent.

Carter was ordered to appear in Chenango town court at a future date.
