Broome is one of 17 counties in New York State due to get money to combat gun violence.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced May 26 that Broome is to get funds under the Gun Involved Violence Elimination, or ‘GIVE’ initiative.

The Broome Sheriff’s office, Binghamton Police and District Attorney’s office will split $393,944 for crime prevention in problem areas.

The state Division of Criminal Justice Services is to provide training from national experts to aid local officials in policing, crime prevention and outreach in communities to help interrupt cycles of violence.
