Andrew Block is planning to leave his position as executive assistant to Binghamton Mayor Matthew Ryan next month.

Block plans to start a doctoral program in literature at the University of California at Los Angeles in the fall.

Block started work at City Hall as Ryan's communications director in 2007. He became executive assistant to the mayor in 2010.

Ryan says Block's successor will be Kyle Seeley. His first day as executive assistant is to be July 8.

Seeley is a Binghamton University graduate. He interned in the Binghamton mayor's office and served as administrative assistant.

Seeley also was a field director for Dan Lamb's congressional campaign. He most recently worked in Senator Charles Schumer's Washington press office.
