Authorities say the incident happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday after the cab driver picked up a man on Perry Street on the West Side.

The man was taken to the area of Otseningo and Hall streets on the South Side. When the cab stopped, the passenger struck the driver in the head and pointed a knife at him.

The man demanded and received cash from the driver. The passenger then ordered the driver to get out of the cab. The robber then drove away in the vehicle and headed onto Conklin Avenue.

The abandoned taxi was found by a police officer early Thursday morning parked on Cedar Street on the West Side.

The suspect was described as a black man; about 30 years old; 6 feet, three inches tall with a thin build. He had short curly hair and was wearing a blue plaid button-up shirt and jeans.

Investigators say people with information about the robbery may contact the Binghamton police detective bureau at 607.772.7080.
