River Bistro at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel offers fine dining in a beautiful, quiet setting in downtown Binghamton.

River Bistro is one of the eateries participating in Binghamton Restaurant Week, which runs through March 30.

The restaurant may be more familiar to Binghamton visitors than to Broome County residents because of its location on the main floor of the Water Street hotel.

Many of the restaurant's tables overlook the Chenango River toward the city's West Side. A separate dining room also is available for special gatherings.

The baby spinach salad provided a tasty start to a Saturday evening dinner. The salad included red wine poached pear slices, crispy peppered walnuts and just the right amount of herbed goat cheese. The salad was dressed with a smoked honey vinaigrette.

For the main course, I enjoyed the braised short rib, which was made with a smoked bourbon barbecue sauce. It was accompanied by cornbread pudding, pork cracklings and sautéed kale.

A dessert of warm chocolate bread pudding that included pistachios and dried cherries was topped with crème anglaise served as a perfect way to conclude a great meal.

The relaxed environment of River Bistro offers a great dining option in the heart of downtown Binghamton.
