Public works crews in the Twin Tiers have been busy keeping roads cleared after frequent snow storms this season and then repairing an increasing number of potholes.

Motorists in the city of Binghamton are trying to maneuver vehicles around some deep craters on heavily-traveled streets like Riverside Drive, Chenango Street and State Street.

Drivers frequently swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid large potholes.

Some motorists are suggesting road conditions in the city are worse than in neighboring communities.

Mayor Richard David has said the public works department has been assigning crews to tackle potholes as complaints are received.

Dozens of potholes on Prospect Street were filled in last week, although motorists are continuing to report a rough road surface on some sections of the street.

The city last month began offering a mobile app that allows residents to submit repair requests for potholes.

Potholes and other issues also may be reported using the city's website.
