Authorities say a traffic stop in Binghamton resulted in the seizure of nearly eight pounds of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash.

City police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a 30-year-old Tioga County man after he was pulled over on the Brandywine Highway.

Officials say Benjamin Key of Hartwell Road, Berkshire, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

According to police, an officer on routine patrol on Binghamton's North Side noticed a vehicle leave an area "known to him for drug activity."

The officer followed the vehicle driven by Key and stopped it after observing two traffic violations.

Police say 7.8 pounds of marijuana in several vacuum-sealed bags was found in the vehicle. They say $2,590 in cash also was confiscated.

Key was arraigned in Binghamton city court. He was released on $1,000 bail.
