Binghamton Man Charged in West Side Stabbing

Police say a Binghamton man has been accused of stabbing a person in the back on the city's West Side.
Investigators say 28-year-old Jose Aponte of Walnut Street was taken into custody shortly after the attack.
The assault near 56 1/2 Leroy Street happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday (March 1). Police were called to investigate a report of a group of people fighting.
Detectives say a 47-year-old man was stabbed in the back. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police say Aponte was found at the scene. He was charged with second-degree assault.
