Holiday season shoppers will have to contend with construction crews working in a downtown Binghamton parking ramp.

The massive restoration project at the city-owned State Street garage started nearly six months ago. The job was expected to be completed in August.

Engineers found structural problems in ramp were more extensive than originally believed.

People who work downtown and those who visit businesses have encountered difficulties in find parking spaces in the garage.

The facility has about 590 parking spaces but many have been inaccessible because some levels of the ramp have been closed while crews are working on them.

City officials have said they now believe the repair work in the State Street garage will be finished by the end of the year.
