The plow trucks and other equipment will be deployed across New York State as the Department of Transportation workers battle the snow to clear highways as quickly as possible.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, DOT spokesman David Hamburg said the agency participated in weather and emergency operations briefings in recent days to prepare for the storm. Those briefings are continuing to provide updated information as conditions change.

Hamburg said when a storm hits, the DOT moves to around-the-clock operations with employees working twelve-hour shifts.

Drivers are advised to use extreme caution as they travel during the storm. Hamburg said motorists should not pass DOT plow trucks.

Hamburg said if you must travel, slow down and stay calm. Updated travel information for New York State roadways may be found at 511ny.org.
