Broome County Sheriff’s officials say at least one person is in custody following a chase late February 4 through several Binghamton neighborhoods that ended with a vehicle crashing into a utility pole at a gas station on Glenwood Avenue and Clinton Street, closing the block around the Speedway for several hours.

Motorists even into the seven o’clock hour had been asked to avoid the block between Belnap and Lake Street to give crews room to fix the pole.

Authorities say several cars may also have been hit in the pursuit that began at about 11:45 p.m. and some cable and internet customers were left without service while repairs were being made to the pole at the Speedway Station.

There have been reports that other vehicles may have been involved but it’s not clear if they were part of the chase or if they were hit by the vehicle that authorities had been pursuing.
