The Binghamton labor market lost another 300 jobs over the past year. That's according to the monthly employment report released by the state Department of Labor.

The number of nonfarm jobs in Broome and Tioga counties dropped by 0.3 percent between October 2013 and last month.

The report indicates 107,500 people in the Binghamton area were employed in October.

Three other labor markets - Utica-Rome, Syracuse and Rochester - also posted job losses over the past 12 months.

While four of the upstate labor markets lost jobs, the total number of jobs in New York state rose by 106,500 during the period.

The number of jobs in New York City rose by more than two percent over the past year.

Labor market analyst Christian Harris says the Binghamton area lost an estimated 500 manufacturing jobs over the last 12 months. About 400 government jobs were lost in the labor market during that period.

Harris says the local construction sector is showing some strength in recent months.
