Dozens of school districts across the Twin Tiers canceled classes Monday as forecasters predicted snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain for the region.

The National Weather Service at Greater Binghamton Airport issued a winter weather advisory, warning drivers that travel conditions could remain hazardous until temperatures rose above freezing.

The snow in the Binghamton area ended by late this morning, although some higher elevations were still receiving some flurries.

Areas of icing will be a problems across much of the region.

Drivers and pedestrians should use caution because untreated surfaces may be extremely slippery.

No serious crashes have been reported in Broome and Tioga counties.
