Over a dozen people are being assisted by the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross after a two alarm fire tore through a six unit, wood frame apartment house on the West Side of the City of Binghamton.

The blaze on Florence Street was reported at 6:58 p.m. December 17 and apparently started on a back porch.

There were no injuries.

Binghamton fire officials say around 31 firefighters worked on the scene for about four and a half hours while the Vestal and Johnson City fire departments stood by to cover the city.

14 residents were displaced by the fire.

Flames from the blaze could be seen blocks away from Jarvis Street.

Initially there had been a report of someone trapped in the building, but City Police arriving first on the scene managed to safely evacuate everyone.
