Bearcat Freshman Named Softball Rookie of the Week

Jessica Rutherford, standout freshman for Binghamton University's softball team, has been named the America East Rookie of the Week.  Rutherford had a batting average of .467 with one home run and nine RBI in five games for the Bearcats.  She is the second Bearcat to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season. Kate Richard, freshman third baseman, won the award in February.

Rutherford is hitting .330 with two home runs and 20 RBI for the season.  She has helped the Bearcats move to a conference record of 5-5 and 14-16 overall.

The Bearcats were scheduled to play a doubleheader at Colgate April 22 but that was rained out.  Binghamton heads to UMBC for a weekend series and then returns to host Maine the following weekend to close out the regular campaign.
