New York State Police are asking anyone who may have been on State Route 7 near Peak Fitness in Bainbridge between 1 and 1:45 p.m. October 27 to contact them concerning a deadly road rage incident.

Officials say Chenango County Corrections Officer John Guzy of Bainbridge is accused of fatally shooting 26 year old Derek D. Prindle of Afton and wounding Prindle’s father, 60 year old Derek S. Prindle during an altercation in the parking lot of the fitness center.

Witnesses reported the men had been involved in a road rage incident and pulled into the parking lot of the business before getting into a physical altercation.

The younger Prindle was shot in the chest and his father attempted to perform CPR even after he was also shot.

Relatives say 60 year old Derek S. Prindle remains hospitalized.

State Police say they are still in the initial phases of their investigation.

Authorities say they are looking for anyone who saw what happened in the incident involving a grey Chevrolet Trail Blazer and a blue Hyundai Santa Fe that afternoon to contact the Troop C Sidney Barracks at (607) 561-7400.
